Vikings WR Stefon Diggs posts Instagram story of himself working out in Cardinals shirt

Stefon Diggs’ suspicious social media presence continues.

This time, the Vikings wide receiver posted a video of himself working out, which isn’t strange in itself. However, he seems to be wearing an Arizona Cardinals shirt.

Honestly, this isn’t the biggest concern in the sports world. An obvious asset the Cardinals could give up is their first-round pick, but that seems like a strange decision for a team that is in rebuilding mode.

You never know, though. Maybe Diggs wants to play there, maybe he doesn’t, but a trade for Diggs is hard to figure out, and the Vikings wideout still has four more years left on his contract.

There has been countless speculation this offseason about Diggs wanting a trade. Earlier in the offseason, he deleted all his Instagram photos of him in a Vikings uniform.

He’s also had his share of cryptic tweets, which is hard to glean anything definitive from, but all this combines into something that’s somewhat concerning.

Media personality Ron Johnson, a former Gophers wide receiver, who also played in the NFL, had a tweet that will probably give Vikings fans comfort (H/T Vikingage.com):

“You either die a hero… or you live long enough to be the villain”
~Batman

Y’all clearly don’t realize Stefon Diggs just likes having fun & enjoying life. Trolling y’all & y’all falling for it.
Cardinals gave his brother a shirt. He wore a shirt to workout.

Stefon Diggs, Other NFL Stars Come Out Against Proposed CBA

There’s a cloud hanging over the 2020 NFL Combine.

That cloud is the new proposed collective bargaining agreement, which has become a divisive issue as it moves through the various steps in the approval process. The uncertainty surrounding the proposed deal has also stalled things like contract discussions and franchise tag decisions, as teams wait to see what happens – and the subsequent rule changes that will take place – before making major moves.

The CBA, which is notable for adding a 17th game to the regular season, is the product of many months of negotiations between the NFL and the players. It was approved by the owners last week, and NFLPA representatives from all 32 teams voted 17-14 in favor of it on Wednesday (with one rep abstaining). Now, it heads to all of the league’s roughly 2,000 players, where a majority vote would see it go into effect this year. That vote likely won’t happen for a few weeks, according to reports.

If that were to happen, the NFL and its players would have guaranteed labor peace through 2030. The 17-game schedule wouldn’t begin until 2021 at the earliest.

However, despite the increasing likelihood that this deal gets done, there are many players who have been vocal in their disapproval of this new CBA. Count Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs among them, based on this tweet from Wednesday.

Several other star players, including JJ Watt, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson, have similarly come out against the CBA.

Rodgers, who is the Packers’ NFLPA rep, posted a lengthy statement regarding his decision to vote against the deal, citing the added risks that come with a 17th game.

Sherman, the 49ers’ rep and a vice president on the NFLPA Executive Committee, expressed the same sentiments that Rodgers did in his statement.

Wilson made it clear that he thinks this deal is rushed and would have negative repercussions for players over the next decade.

The Vikings’ NFLPA rep is Adam Thielen, who has remained silent on social media about the issue. This remains an ongoing story and will continue to be a major talking point for the foreseeable future.

Will Seahawks Make Play for Disgruntled Vikings WR Stefon Diggs?

As free agency and the NFL draft quickly approach, the Seahawks have a plethora of needs to address, including bolstering one of the league’s worst pass rushes and sorting out an offensive line that could be breaking in multiple new starters.

When it comes to Seattle’s offseason priority list, adding another receiver to the mix alongside Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf isn’t one of the team’s most pressing concerns. With Jadeveon Clowney, Jarran Reed, and Germain Ifedi hitting the market, general manager John Schneider has bigger fish to fry at the moment.

However, quarterback Russell Wilson has made his desire for additional weapons known on multiple occasions this offseason. The Seahawks title window remains open and acquiring big-name talent will be vital to returning to the Super Bowl after early exits in the postseason the past two years.

Keeping that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Schneider has already contacted the Vikings about the availability of star receiver Stefon Diggs, who doesn’t seem happy with his situation in Minnesota.

Per reports, Diggs deleted all of his Vikings-related posts of Instagram. While that may seem like an absurd reason to speculate a pending trade, such choices on social media can be telling in 2020. Just look at Jalen Ramsey’s decision to sever his virtual ties with the Jaguars last September shortly before coaxing a trade to the Rams.

If Diggs truly wants to leave Minnesota, players like Ramsey have created a blueprint for stars to force their way out of town. And the Vikings currently find themselves in salary cap hell, as the team currently sits $11.2 million above the cap per OverTheCap.com.

Searching for financial relief, the Vikings are expected to void the final three years of defensive end Everson Griffin’s contract. This would create more than $13 million in cap room, bringing the franchise out of the red.

Other moves would likely need to be made, which has fueled further discussion about the possibility of Diggs being dealt for draft picks.

The Vikings are in win-now mode and jettisoning a 26-year old receiver who has produced over 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons would be detrimental to the team’s chances of making a title run. Trading Diggs also isn’t very beneficial to the Vikings from a cap standpoint, as dealing him only would create $5.5 million in cap room and the team would have to absorb a $9 million dead cap hit.

Still, general manager Rick Spielman must find ways to generate additional cap relief. $6 million in cap space is barely enough to cover a rookie draft class. And if Diggs isn’t happy with his surroundings, his presence could have a negative effect in the locker room.

From the Seahawks perspective, Diggs has an affinity for Wilson and views him as one of the best quarterbacks in the game. He’d jump at the opportunity to catch passes from him in Seattle.

“He’s a 10. I love Russ. He’s a winner, he has that winning mind. I always admire his game,” Diggs said in response to a fan’s question on Bleacher Report last month. “When he has a supporting cast he plays extremely well. Even by himself, he will make it work.”

Imagine opponents trying to game plan for defending the Seahawks next season if they acquired Diggs, one of the best deep threats in the NFL today. Last season, he averaged nearly 18 yards per reception and scored five touchdowns of 50-plus yards, including a 61-yard score in a wild card win over the Saints.

Wilson already has Lockett and Metcalf, who have proven themselves capable of taking the top off of defenses, at his disposal. Coordinators would have to pick their poison and double coverage wouldn’t be an option, especially after adding reliable veteran tight end Greg Olsen.

On the flip side, the Seahawks don’t throw the football near as much as many other teams and rely heavily on the ground game. How would Diggs respond if he’s not getting as many targets? There’s only one football on the field each play and having so many mouths to feed could do more harm than good.

There’s also the compensation issue. Seattle has nearly $50 million in cap space and could make a few moves to create more financial flexibility, so absorbing Diggs’ $11.5 million cap hit would be doable. But it also may prevent the team from signing another pass rusher or pursuing offensive line help.

Schneider would also have to send a high draft pick, possibly a first-round selection or one of their two second-round selections, to the Vikings in exchange to finalize any deal.

Between the draft compensation and the substantial cap hit, Seattle would be spending a great deal to facilitate a move that should be viewed as a luxury more than a need. Those types of decisions can backfire on organizations.

As Schneider always does, he’s going to explore every avenue searching to improve his roster and build around his franchise quarterback. If the Seahawks actually listen to Wilson and plan to air it out a bit more in 2020, then acquiring a dynamic talent like Diggs to pair with Lockett and Metcalf would make more sense.

But even considering Schneider’s past aggressiveness orchestrating blockbuster trades, given Diggs’ price tag and other obvious needs Seattle must tend to in coming months, it seems such a deal is more likely to happen on Madden than in reality.

NFL Rumors: 5 teams who could trade for Stefon Diggs

The Minnesota Vikings seem unlikely to trade Stefon Diggs, but these five teams should be ready to make a deal just in case.

In some way, we’ve been here before. After a frustrating loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 4 last season, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs failed to show up for team meetings, missed practice with the excuse he was sick. The team fined him $200,000 anyway, but trade speculation faded quickly as the Vikings started winning games.

Diggs seems to scrub his Instagram feed of all Vikings’ references each offseason, and he has done so again now. His Twitter feed has also been the source of speculation and angst over “what it means” in terms of his happiness.

Diggs is clearly one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and Pro Football Focus grades him very highly in measures like contested catch rate and yards per route run. Last season, he set a career high with 1,130 receiving yards while averaging 17.9 yard per catch.

But a Gary Kubiak influenced offense has a run-based formula, and Kubiak is now the Vikings’ offensive coordinator by title with Kevin Stefanski’s departure to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns. So the system is not changing this year.

Diggs had 94 targets last season, as Adam Thielen missed a big chunk of games with a hamstring injury and he functioned as the clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver. But 45 players had more targets than Diggs did, including such luminaries as Cole Beasley and Christian Kirk. That lack of usage has to dig at someone of Diggs’ talent.

It’s hard to know if Diggs has, or at some point will, make the situation untenable for the Vikings behind the scenes or publicly. Trading him would be aggressive under any circumstance, since taking a big piece away from Kirk Cousins (with almost an automatic downgrade replacing Diggs) in what is still a win-now year is not at all ideal.

On his Tuesday radio show, Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports suggested Diggs is unhappy and the Vikings would move him for the “right pick.”

A more credible report at some point would be nice, but these five teams should be watching Diggs’ situation closely and be ready to make a trade offer.

5. Cleveland Browns

If only to root of a bit of chaos, which the Browns always seem not to far from anyway, imagine a receiving corp with Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry and Diggs. The Browns have the space ($61.96 million right now, via Over The Cap) to take on Diggs’ $14.5 cap hit this year, and the cap hits over the final three years of his contract ($15 million, $15 million and $12 million) are not necessarily prohibitive along with exit paths that get more and more palatable.

As previously mentioned, Kevin Stefanski went from Vikings’ offensive coordinator to Browns’ head coach. That might be a tie that draws Diggs’ interest in a reunion, and if a move to trade Beckham comes there’s room for Diggs to fit in a little better on the field as well as on Cleveland’s balance sheet. The odds aren’t great here, but don’t rule out Diggs to the Browns.

Stefon Diggs continues to post cryptic Tweets

In September, the Bears stymied the Vikings offense in a 16-6 victory and Stefon Diggs seemed like he had enough.

After the game, the Vikings wideout left before talking to media. On top of that, he missed a practice shortly after. Asked about his frustrations with Minnesota’s offense and whether he wanted to be traded, Diggs said “there’s truth to all rumors,” per NFL.com.

Though the team’s performance didn’t always lead to Diggs’ happiness, Minnesota clearly turned a corner after that game, finishing 10-6 in the regular season after a 2-2 start.

But now that the season is over, are we to believe that the wide receiver is content on staying or is he on the move? In addition to taking down Instagram pictures of him in a Vikings uniform, Diggs posted a series of tweets recently that have led some Vikings fans to believe that he might want out.

It’s hard to glean anything from these tweets in my opinion. Some of the more cryptic ones could be about aspects of his personal life.

The Kawhi Leonard GIF he posted might be about the D’Angelo Russell trade. Leonard is a player famous for moving to another team and finding success, so maybe that’s what the GIF is about, if I’m being overly optimistic.

One thing is for certain, though: the tweets gave Vikings fans pause, and it gave fans around the league hope that a star wide receiver might be on the way.

Stefon Diggs removes all Vikings photos from his Instagram account

The NFL offseason is in full swing with teams clearing salary cap space and determining who they will target in free agency. But players can drop hints about their plans, too. There’s now growing speculation that Minnesota Vikings star wideout Stefon Diggs could is questioning his future with the franchise.

The evidence: Diggs recently removed all Vikings photos from his Instagram account. His page is no full of photos of himself away from the football field.

This comes after Diggs tweeted a cryptic message on Saturday saying that “things getting interesting.” It’s unclear if the Vikings star wide receiver wants out of Minnesota, but he has posted several mysterious tweets throughout the offseason, fueling speculation that he could on his way out of town.

Diggs just completed his first year of a five-year, $72 million contract extension that he signed with the Vikings in 2018. During his four-year NFL career, Diggs has caught 365 passes for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns for the Vikings.

He is also responsible for lifting Minnesota to the NFC Championship Game two years ago, when he caught the game-winning touchdown against the New Orleans Saints in what is now referred to as the “Minneapolis Miracle.”

The receiver voiced his displeasure with his role in the Vikings offense during the early portion of the 2019 season. Over the first five weeks, the former fifth-round pick had 49 receiving yards or less in four of the team’s first five games. However, Diggs did end up hauling in 63 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns in the 2019 campaign when it was all said and done.

It’s certainly going to be very intriguing to see what happens with Diggs during the offseason, especially with this latest Instagram drama.

Dallas Cowboys: Trade for Stefon Diggs and let Amari Cooper go

The Dak Prescott contract situation is dominating headlines but the Dallas Cowboys have another important player seeking market-setting money this offseason. Amari Cooper is one of the best receivers in the game, and as such, is expecting to be paid top-3 money this offseason.

Sporttac estimates that figure to be 5yrs/$98,589,580 at nearly $20 million per season. Perhaps if the Dallas Cowboys think that’s too high, they can set their sights on a cheaper option, like Stefon Diggs. Reports surfaced the Vikings are looking to move on from Diggs this year. The Pro Bowl receiver has become discontent with the run-heavy offense and given Minnesota’s salary cap troubles, he’s on the market.

Diggs has been a big play machine for the Vikings since the day he was drafted. Cooper’s 10 yards per target were elite by all measures last season, but Diggs’ 12.0 per target is almost unpresented for guy with 94 targets.

The two players are different in their style of play, but they’re comparable in talent. Dallas Morning News’ John Owning recently ranked Diggs No. 8 in the NFL (one spot behind Cooper). He pointed out Diggs’ 2.69 yards per route (second in the NFL) and eight 40-yard+ receptions (best in NFL).

So why would the Dallas Cowboys want to trade their top pick for another WR when they could just re-sign the guy they already have? Savings. As mentioned above, Cooper is expected to get $20 million per season on his next deal. Diggs is already under contract at a sum that’s much less.

Sportec reports Diggs is locked in for the next four seasons at a cap hit of $14.5M, $15M, $15M, and $12M, respectively. That’s a steal compared to the going rate today. It also tells us how crazy expensive contracts have a way of looking crazy cheap as time goes on. So even if Dallas gives Coop $20 million per season on his next deal (and Dak $38M), it will look like a bargain 2-3 years from now.

Would I rather have Diggs than Cooper? No, but for the money it sure looks tempting. The obvious drawback to this all is the cost to acquire. Trading another first round pick for a WR seems crazy, even if it’s a fallacy to take sunk costs into consideration.

Just more fun things to consider as we head into what’s sure to be a very exciting/frustrating offseason for the Dallas Cowboys.

Vikings Mailbag: O-line options, Diggs trade chances, Stefanski’s flaw and more

Offensive linemen have dominated the discussion in our first offseason mailbag. We’ll take a look at questions surrounding the players in the trenches, then touch on some of the other topics that will play a big part in the Vikings’ plan to reload for another playoff run. Let’s get into it.

Who are the offensive linemen free agents this year?

— Bruce F.

It’s unlikely that the Vikings would be able to seriously compete for top-tier offensive line talent in free agency given their cap situation, so players like Anthony Castonzo,

Jack Conklin, Joe Thuney and Brandon Scherff are off the table.

After that are aging veterans who have begun to decline, like Jason Peters and Andrew Whitworth, and there’s a good chance that they could retire this offseason or the next. If

their contracts — which would be short-term — are low, they would be an upgrade despite both having their best years behind them. It’s doubtful that the market…

In blowout loss to 49ers, a harsh truth for the Vikings’ offense gets exposed

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — As the final two minutes ticked off of the clock Saturday, Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs sat on a white bench on the Vikings sideline and stared off into Santa Clara evening.

Together they have signed contracts worth $136 million — $73 million of that total guaranteed — and yet they were rendered almost irrelevant from the second possession of the game on. They play in an offense centered on running the football, with an offensive line that is incapable of holding a block long enough to let a passing play develop and triggered by a quarterback that checks down as a way of life, or perhaps a way of saving his.

In three hours of complete domination, the San Francisco 49ers laid bare everything that is wrong with the Vikings offense. When facing a rugged, aggressive defense, this turtle retreats into its shell to take beating after beating.

It shouldn’t be as easy to take away players as dynamic as Diggs and Thielen. But from…

Look: Stefon Diggs rocks awesome ‘Toy Story’ cleats for preseason game

Stefon Diggs is obviously a man of high culture.

The Minnesota Vikings star showed up to Sunday’s preseason game against Seattle rocking an incredible pair of “Toy Story 4”-themed cleats. The multi-colored kicks featured beloved new character Forky. Take a look:

Diggs, who posted 1,021 yards receiving and nine touchdowns last season (both career-highs), only played sparingly on Sunday (as is tradition for the preseason). But the cleats still made for an impressive cameo nevertheless.

The 25-year-old wideout has been known to make statements with his cleats, but given that he was born two years before the first “Toy Story” film came out in 1995, this may be his nicest touch yet.

Diggs caught his only target for six yards in Sunday’s preseason win over Seattle.

Adam Thielen was the Vikings’ starting wideout that shined Sunday (three catches for 45 yards), but as we have seen over the past two seasons, there will be enough for both stars to eat over the course of the season. Look for Diggs to get more looks from his quarterback in Saturday’s preseason matchup with the Cardinals.

On the final day of training camp, Twins center fielder Byron Buxton (who is currently on the injured list with a shoulder injury) stopped by Vikings practice.

He gave Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs a jersey of his, and Diggs put it on. And then went deep with it on.

It looks like Sean Mannion (who we think is at quarterback in this clip) greatly underthrows Diggs, which isn’t a great sign, but whatever.

At first, I thought this was a clip of Buxton going deep, and well, given his injury history, Twins fans wouldn’t be very happy.

Minnesota sports love.
